Call for Papers - Payment Village @ DEF CON 33 8-10th August 2025

About the Village

The Payment Security Village explores the complex intersection of security, usability, and technology in probably the most commonly used security systems worldwide. As payment systems continue to evolve globally, we aim to showcase real-world security research and analyses that impact how we transact in our daily lives or even just illuminate the magic of the technology working behind the scenes to keep our money secure.

What We're Looking For

We invite submissions on topics including, but not limited to:
- Security analysis of payment systems and infrastructure
- Novel attack vectors on payment technologies
- Fraud detection systems and their effectiveness
- Security vs. usability trade-offs in payment design
- Contactless payment vulnerabilities
- Credit/debit card security implementations
- Mobile payment security
- Payment protocol analysis
- Emerging payment technologies and their security implications
- Security of QR code payment systems (study of real world implementation techniques or weaknesses in past/current systems)

We’d also be very interested in hearing about Social Engineering in payment-related scams, and especially the industrialization of social engineering via scam compounds in South East Asia and elsewhere.

Previous Talks

Our past sessions have featured diverse topics including ATM vulnerabilities, credit/debit card security, contactless payment vulnerabilities, and fraud detection systems. Check out our previous talks on the website.

Submission Guidelines

Please include:
- Talk title
- Abstract (300 words max)
- Speaker bio
- Estimated presentation length (20/45/60 mins)
- Any technical requirements

Important Details

- Submit proposals to: speakers@paymentvillage.org
- Include "DEF CON 2025 CFP" in the subject line
- Submissions should ideally demonstrate practical research or real-world impact
- Both offensive and defensive security perspectives are welcome
